Unless there is some kind of unusually strong eruption Mt Etna shouldn't cause you any problems visiting. In fact you can hike and take the funivia to the 10,000 flt level of the volcano for beautiful sight seeing. The good thing is Etna is one of the most monitored volcanoes on earth.
