Each of the vertebral bones is separated from its neighbor by a disc. The discs are in the anterior (front part) of the spine. Together, the discs allow movement and cushion shocks. Posterior to (behind) each of the discs, and between every pair of vertebral bones, is a foramen or hole. One spinal nerve root exits through from each of these holes.
Outline: Information and pictures of the spine and spinal cord showing C1 to S5 vertebra and which vertebra effect various body functions. The human spinal cord is about 45 cm (18 in) in men and 43 cm (17 in) long in women. The human spine is composed of 33 vertebrae that interlock with each other ...
The Spine Diagram. The spine diagram shown below, consists of many bones or vertebrae, soft discs, the spinal cord, and spinal nerves. The spine anatomy is a complex structure. Simply put: the vertebrae, which stack like spools of thread, support the back and protect the spinal cord.
You can see why by looking at this diagram. Your nerves and spine are interconnected to your whole body. Each part of the spinal cord controls a specific part of our body. That’s why when our spinal cord gets damaged in specific areas, we could each become paralyzed from the waist down, neck down or even death. Our nervous system controls it all.
Anatomical diagrams of the spine and back . These diagrams and original illustrations were produced from 3D medical imaging reconstructions of the spine and back by Dr. Antoine Micheau. All the images are in vector format, allowing an optimal web display with zoom and shifting of the anatomical images.
Learn how using a spine diagram can help to better understand many back and neck pain diagnoses. We provide written and visual depictions of the spine throughout the website to help in your research efforts. Learn all about the construction of the human spine.
Cervical Spine Diagram . The Cervical Spine Diagram shown below is a lateral view which means you are looking at the spine from its side. Cervical spine is the spine in the neck area. On the diagram you could see the 7 cervical vertebrae; C1 down to C7. In between the vertebrae the space for the disc material is seen too.
Lower back pain is a common ailment. This can arise for reasons ranging from improper posture to a compression fracture. Lower back issues can put pressure on the lumbar spine nerves and create ...
Anatomy of the Spine Overview. The spine is made of 33 individual bones stacked one on top of the other. This spinal column provides the main support for your body, allowing you to stand upright, bend, and twist, while protecting the spinal cord from injury.
The spine is made up of many bones called vertebrae. These are roughly circular and between each vertebra is a disc. The discs are made of strong rubber-like tissue which allows the spine to be fairly flexible. A disc has a stronger fibrous outer part and a softer jelly-like middle part. The middle ...
