Bulova Date Codes. The following tables will help you date your vintage Bulova watch. Watches dated post 1949 have a 2 alpha-numeric date code on the outside backcase, whilst watches dated before 1950 usually contain a date code symbol on the inside movement (see below for examples).

Dating a Bulova watch becomes quite a bit easier beginning with models manufactured in 1926. At that time, Bulova started using with regularity standard date codes on the movement. Additionally, in many instances, the case serial number on these later models can be used as a date reference.
Ok - I thought I did my homework and googled this. I see there are letters that are used to date the watch. However, the watch I have - a vintage Bulova ladies 14K gold filled watch - has a serial number starting with F. F is not on any of the lists? The serial number is F307207. Anyone? Lori
BULOVA: In the 1950's Bulova incorporated a symbol system to date the watches they manufactured. These numbers are stamped on the back (outside) of the case. If there is no two symbols, it could be that your watch was made before 1948.
Bulova Watch Identification Guide Bulova watches can be identified with a reasonable degree of certainty, due to the existence of a body of work gathered by collectors over the years. Bulova Serial Numbers. Unlike many other watch manufactures, Bulova did not record their serial numbers against watch models, or if they did this information has long been lost. In many instances the case serial number can only be used to help determine the year of manufacture. This is usually dictated by the first number (prior to 1950).
