Split brain syndrome really only occurs with a near total division, generally the anterior 2/3 or more. I disagree that division of the corpus callosum by itself would cause coma. Much more likely, if “damage” occurs to the corpus callosum due to trauma, it's the associated injury to surrounding structures that causes the symptoms.
