I just came across something the other day that I think will help me a lot in the winter here in Manitoba. I will be installing a ZeroStart 1500W coolant heater that will circulate and heat my antifreeze while I am plugged in (like a block heater, except not heating the engine block directly).

Heater works well, puts out a lot of heat quickly, but keep in mind this is a high wattage heater that takes about 13 amps to operate. While it is fine for my tractor, using a heavy extension cord plugged into its own circuit, it comes close to maxing out a 15 amp circuit by itself.

With the block heaters, here anyway where it's down to -40 more often than not in winter, the circulating heater will have the motor warm enough to start in about an hour or a bit more. The block heater is more like 4-6 hours. Sometimes longer. Our main feeding tractors have circulating heaters for that reason.
