I have heard 100's of universal joints creak but never a transfer case. Normally when a transfer case is failing you are going to hear a loud grinding noise coming from the bearings. My recommendation would be to have the truck either looked at by another tech or just have joints put in it. It does sound by your description anything like a t-case.

Maybe by lowering the suspension in the rear, I can correct the vibration. Removing the drive shaft on some vehicles can cause damage to the transfer case if the vehicle is driven. Especially on vehicles with auto 4wd. The recommendation is not a bad one and I have done this on some vehicles.

At the shop in my city they told me that when they installed the used Transfer case that they didn't tighten the bolts that hold it on.
