Perinephric stranding refers to the appearance of edema within the fat of the perirenal space on CT or MRI. While a degree of symmetric bilateral perinephric stranding is common, particularly in the elderly, asymmetric or unilateral perinephric stranding is an important sign of renal inflammation or of acute obstruction.
Results: We evaluated 148 patients with mean age of 46 years (SD 14.6), 56.0% (n = 83) were male. On univariate analysis, moderate-severe perinephric stranding was associated with elevated creatinine from baseline (OR 2.93, p = 0.03).
Stranding of perinephric fat is defined as linear areas of soft tissue attenuation in the perinephric space, which can result from any acute process or injury to the kidney. When unilateral perinephric stranding is identified it is most frequently...
Perinephric Stranding (fat) Definition and Ultrasound ... Perinephric space is a compartment that contains the kidney, adrenal gland, perinephric fat, fibrous bridging septa and a rich network of perineal vessel and lymphatics. Perinephric is a connective fatty tissue that surrounds the kidney. ... (bilateral, mild, moderate, severe) Treatment.
perirenal fat stranding (PFS) is commonly shown on CT in patients without acute ureteral obstruction or any other urological condition. Some authors regarded the finding as being caused by previous inflammation or of no particular clinical significance and commented that bilateral PFS was seen in many older patients.4,7 Nevertheless, there ...
Fat stranding is a common sign seen on CT wherever fat can be found. It is most commonly seen in abdomen/pelvis, but can also be seen in retroperitoneum, thorax, neck and subcutaneous tissues. It can be helpful in localizing both acute and chronic pathology.
All I know is that perinephric means around the kidney. But as to how that can be strained I have no clue. Sorry to hear you are unwell, hope it all turns out to be easily fixable....keep us posted ... I have no idea what perinephric straining (or stranding) is; but I'll say a few prayers for you. I think you need to see the ...
Perinephric fat stranding is usually seen immediately adjacent to the abnormal areas in the renal parenchyma because of an inflammatory reaction with leukocytes forming an infection or infarction . In addition to abnormalities within the renal cortex and medulla, there may be inflammatory changes in the Gerota fascia and renal sinuses as well ...
Hydronephrosis. Hydronephrosis occurs when a kidney has an excess of fluid due to a backup of urine, often caused by an obstruction in the upper part of the urinary tract.
