Even your reference says that platypodes is a proper pluralization because of its Greek root. It's a rather flimsy rule to say "this plural isn't used in English" because in English, what don't we use? Its a very bastard language. We use platypuses because its common and easier but if someone wants to say platypodes that is acceptable as well.
