Parallel lines are important in mathematics because they are at the base of several conjectures involving angles in geometry. Drawing a line, called a transversal, through a pair of parallel lines forms three different types of angles that have known mathematical properties.

These straight and parallel lines are phenomenal and one of the fineset element in photography always overlooked onto. There are always several factors inducing these lines inside your frame. It always occurs in the combination of horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines.

Best Answer: For manufacturing, it is easier and much less expensive to make objects with parallel faces. For example, a sheet of steel would be prohibitively expensive to make without parallel faces. If floors in our houses were not parallel, they would not be level and everything would roll around, not to ...

Parallel lines are lines which share the same gradient. In Euclidean geometry (the geometry used in standard mathematics and day-to-day physics), parallel lines will never meet at a point, but ...

Because parallel lines in a Euclidean plane are equidistant there is a unique distance between the two parallel lines. Given the equations of two non-vertical, non-horizontal parallel lines, = + = +, the distance between the two lines can be found by locating two points (one on each line) that lie on a common perpendicular to the parallel lines and calculating the distance between them.

Angles and Parallel Lines. Posted on September 13, 2012 by Passy. Image Source: Licence pending from Getty Images. The “Crooked Mile” on the Pillani Highway in Maui Hawaii looks very different to a normal highway ! Volcanic activity and continual movement of the island makes it impossible to build a straight road that will last very long.

Parallel lines are lines in a plane which do not intersect. Like adjacent lanes on a straight highway, two parallel lines face in the same direction, continuing on and on and never meeting each other. In the figure in the first section below, the two lines ...

I'm currently covering parallel lines cut by a transversal. I can't think of real world examples/ uses of parallel lines that are cut by a transversal. The only one I could think of was roads. I know I'm going to get that one kid who will ask why it's important to learn about this specific topic. What would you tell them?
