The Wayne National Forest is located in the hills of southeastern Ohio. This small national forest, in the heart of the heavily populated Midwest, covers almost a quarter million acres of Appalachian foothills.

Much information is there to educate you about the foliage and fauna and the forest landscape in general so ask questions and collect reading material.

The forest is nestled in rugged foothills of the Appalachian Mountain Range, north of the Ohio River Valley. Flora and fauna . The Wayne National Forest boasts more than 2,000 species of plants, including hardwoods, pine and cedar as well as an endangered species, running buffalo clover.


Wayne National Forest covers three separate sections of southwest Ohio, and is spread throughout twelve counties. The only national forest in the state, it surrounds Athens, Marietta and is west of Gallipolis. The forest sprawls over 250,000 acres of Appalachian hills and spans over 800,000 acres total.
