To estimate how many people died during the Cold War I should know the scope of your definition of Cold War. If you limit the Cold War just to a political and ideological conflict between Soviet Union and USA, not including satellite states/allies and proxy wars fought in Africa, Asia etc., than the number of deaths caused by the Cold War shouldn't exceed a few hundreds.
