Two calculations are performed since the amount of fabric required may depend on how the pieces are cut. In the second calculation, the width and length are reversed from the first calculation. (See the example in the picture below.) Please note that the amount of fabric to cut is the calculated amount of fabric rounded up to the nearest 1/8 yard.
