Firestone recalled tires manufactured from 1991 through 2000 due to a safety-related defect. This included all Firestone ATX and ATX II tires (size P234/75 R15) manufactured from 1991 through 2000, in addition to all Wilderness AT tires (size P234/75R15) manufactured at Firestone's plant in Decatur, Ill., from 1996 through 2000.
There were approximately 14.4 million tires recalled. Most tires were installed on Ford vehicles, primarily the Ford Explorer. There were a small number of tires installed on vehicles of other manufacturers including Mercury and Mazda. A handful of the recalled tires were also used as replacements on a variety of models.
