One of the largest annual classic car events in the United States is Hot August Nights, which features a variety of shows and competitions throughout the Reno-Tahoe area. Some other major annual events include the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the Woodward Dream Cruise and the Charlotte AutoFair.
Hot August Nights takes place for roughly a week each August and features classic car shows and events at various locations in Reno, Carson City and Virginia City in Nevada and the Lake Tahoe area in California. Enthusiasts bring about 5,000 classic vehicles to the area to participate in show-n-shines, races and auctions. There are also a number of live musical performances and a large swap meet at the Reno Livestock Events Center.
The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance also takes place in August, usually on the third Sunday of the month. The event centers on a parade of about 200 vintage automobiles and motorcycles with a central theme of elegant design.
The Woodward Dream Cruise takes place in Detroit, usually on the same August weekend as the Pebble Beach event. Though Hot August Nights bills itself as the "world's largest classic car show," Woodward dwarfs it in terms of cars on display with about 40,000 and may also top it in participation with an estimated 1 million spectators for the annual car cruise.
