Used cylinder heads can be recycled using three machines, namely an alloy identifier, hammer mill and magnetic separator. The alloy identifier helps in identifying the proportion of alloy in the cylinder head. The hammer mill breaks the material into small pieces, while the separator removes ferrous elements from the mixture.
The hammer mill is made of several hammers, which cut the cylinder head into tiny pieces. The pieces are then taken through the separation process. Mechanical separation is one of the three methods of extracting aluminum from reusable products such as cylinder heads. The others are pyrolysis and repulping. Pyrolysis is based on evaporation. Many recycling plants have systems to recycle cylinder heads and get aluminum.
