The BMW 330i, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Dodge Grand Caravan and Mini Cooper S are on the list of used cars that people should avoid buying, according to a 2013 study by Consumer Reports. This selection is based on statistics that focus on the models' overall reliability and the amount of work that they need over time. The list features a total of 27 different cars from 2004 to 2013.
Consumer Reports' list of used cars to avoid also contains the Buick Enclave, the Chrysler Town & Country, the Ford Fiesta, the Nissan Pathfinder and the Saturn Outlook, among others.
There are a number of factors to consider when purchasing a used car, such as the number of miles it currently has, how old the car is and whether the car has a safe history. Avoid purchasing any used car without doing the proper research beforehand. Allstate recommends using a vehicle identification number lookup tool to confirm that the VIN matches the car's registered records.
Always test drive a car before purchasing it. If the car is leaking, it could be a sign of a serious problem. Avoid purchasing a car until a mechanic has taken a look at it. If the car has any issues, he can inform you before you decide to make the purchase.
