Ultra light travel trailers are designed specifically to bring weight down so they can be towed by more fuel-efficient vehicles, such as small trucks, SUVs and even cars. While there is no industry standard on what qualifies a trailer as ultra light, most labeled as such weigh below 4,500 pounds.
Due to the increased cost of fuel and the expense of operating larger trucks to pull bigger trailers, manufacturers started to create models with reduced weight. Ultralight trailers try to maintain interior amenities and comforts of home living, while using compact designs to reduce overall weight. Modern materials, such as carbon fiber, have aided in creating lighter trailers while keeping them structurally sound.
