What Types of Used Trailers Are Typically up for Sale?

Enclosed motorcycle and car haulers, horse trailers, multipurpose flatbeds, recreational travel trailers and lightweight utility trailers are some of the most common types of used trailers available through private sales. Trailers for semi-trucks, concession and food trailers, livestock carriers and dump trailers are typically offered as well. Prices, styles, makes and models vary tremendously and depend on several factors, including the trailer's location and condition.

Enclosed car haulers are sold in a variety of sizes. Trailers designed for a single car are typical, but stacker trailers, toy haulers and trailers that carry multiple motorcycles are also common. Toy haulers are popular among all-terrain vehicle owners and hunters who use four-wheelers, and often provide sleeping quarters as an added bonus.

Used horse trailers are also sold in various sizes, but most often accommodate two to four horses. Some horse trailers also include sleeping quarters. Flatbed trailers are commonly used to transport heavy machinery and may also serve as open-air car haulers. A truck equipped with a fifth-wheel hitch is required to tow many of these trailers.

Used travel trailers are generally newer models no more than 10 years old, although vintage campers are also widely available. Most often, these trailers are designed for standard pull-behind towing. Lightweight utility trailers may be open or enclosed, and are sold in many different sizes. These are often used to transport general household items, all-terrain vehicles or lawn and garden equipment.
