For the 2014 and 2015 model years, U.S. News & World Report recommends the Chevrolet Colorado, the GMC Canyon and the Toyota Tacoma in the compact truck category. Recommended full-sized pickup trucks include the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the Ram 1500.
Each recommended truck has multiple trim options with different features. The Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon have similar designs, but the Canyon has a higher suggested retail price and includes more features. In 2005, the Toyota Tacoma was the Truck of the Year according to Motor Trend magazine. In 2009, the Tacoma was the Top Safety Pick of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has an improved interior and a more powerful engine, whether the V6 or the V8 is selected. The Silverado is also known for its fuel efficiency.
The Ram 1500 was originally known as the Dodge Ram 1500, but the name was shortened in 2009. That model year included many improvements over previous generation in terms of power, the truck's interior and its ride quality. One benefit to the ride quality was the coil-spring rear suspension. The Hemi V8 is the superior engine choice for the Ram 1500. The other option, the V6, isn't as powerful or fuel efficient.
