Impact Auto Auctions sells vehicles that have been in collisions or accidents or that have otherwise suffered some type of failure but are still salvageable. The company's website, IAAI.com, lists auctions for vehicles around the country, and the range of vehicles listed includes cars, light-duty trucks, motorcycles, vans and boats.
A few of the cars the company sells in auctions have been confiscated from thefts but have been cleared legally for resale. Some auctions are only open to dealers, scrappers and dismantlers, but most are open to the public. Potential buyers can place live online bids on most auctions, but they can also bid in person. Before they can place a bid, however, they must register with the IAA by completing the Licensed Business Buyer registration form, the Public Buyer registration form or the guest registration form.
The auctions go into proxy, or pre-bid, bidding phases several days before the actual auction goes live. The highest pre-bid is transferred over and represented at the live auction. In-person bids are handled at IAA facilities around the country, and online bids are handled by I-Bid Live. Once an auction is complete, the winner can transport the vehicle himself or use an IAA-approved shipping service.
