Most Mitsubishi Eclipse compact sport cars featured a choice of a four-cylinder or a V-6 gasoline engine. The 2012 Eclipse, the last of the model produced, were sold with either a 162-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine or a 265-horsepower, 3.8-liter V-6 engine.
The first and second generation of Eclipses, sold between 1990 and 1999, came with various four-cylinder engines with different levels of horsepower. Beginning with the third generation in 2000, Eclipses had more powerful 200- and 205-horsepower V-6 engines as well as basic four-cylinder versions ranging from 140 to 154 horsepower. The fourth and final generation, dating from 2006 until 2012, came with single options for four-cylinder and V-6 engines.
