The top mountain bikes are the Yeti SB75, the Santa Cruz Bantam, the Trek Remedy 27.5, the Giant Trance SX, the Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt, the Scott Contessa Genius, the Norco Sight Carbon, the Devinci Troy, the Salsa Spearfish and the Pivot March 6. This 2014 list is compiled by Bicycling.
The Yeti SB75 is one of the most versatile in the Yeti series and features switch suspension, rollover ability and enhanced maneuverability. The Santa Cruz Bantam is a single-pivot bike with 27.5-inch wheels, and the Trek Remedy 27.5 includes DRCV shots with a secondary air chamber for increased shock absorption. The Trance SX 27.5 has a heavy-duty build and Maestro suspension, and the Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt is built for stability and precision steering on steep trails.
The Scott Contessa Genius features a TwinLoc lever mounted on the handlebar as well as smooth Fox rear shocks. The Norco Sight Carbon has a lightweight carbon frame and a stiff frame for durability. Featuring adjustable bottom bracket height for fine-tune handling, the Devinci Troy is built for enduro racing. For long treks, the Salsa Spearfish is a good choice with its Weagle’s Split Pivot design. The appeal of the Pivot Marc 6 lies in its DW-Link suspension and carbon frame.
