Shop for used 1969 Harley-Davidson panhead motorcycles at eBay, OodleMarketplace.com and CycleTrader.com. In March 2015, CycleTrader lists a 1969 custom Harley-Davidson panhead for $9,500. Selections are subject to change as motorcycles are sold.
A panhead motorcycle gets its nickname from the distinctive shape of its engine rocker covers. Panheads are two-cylinder engines with two valves per cylinder. Harley-Davidson manufactured panhead engines from 1948 until 1965, when panheads were replaced by shovelhead engines.
The choppers ridden by Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda in the movie Easy Rider exemplify Harley-Davidson panhead motorcycles. In Easy Rider, the classic panhead bikes were named “Captain America” and “Billy Bike” respectively.
