The specifications of the new Volkswagen Transporter T6 van include a two-liter, 102 bhp turbo direct-injection diesel engine or 204 bhp turbocharged stratified injection petrol engine, an electrohydraulic pop-up roof and dimmable LED lighting in the roof and tailgate. Further, the T6 comes with a full kitchen, including a twin-burner stove and a stainless steel sink.
As of 2015, the Transporter T6 is the latest model in Volkswagen's California campervan line, which started in 1988. Manufactured at the company's bespoke assembly facility in Hanover, Germany, the van is the first and only factory-built one of its kind. There are two models of the T6: the Beach edition sports the 102 bhp engine, while the Ocean features the 204 bhp engine. The van is able to sleep four and comes with a roof and double bed.
The Ocean model's fridge has a 42-liter capacity, while the kitchen also features a combination cup, towel holder and ash tray. New to the California line-up are the T6's driver-assist safety features. A Driver Alert System identifies odd steering patterns that could represent driver fatigue and the Brake Assist system applies full braking power in emergency situations. Additionally, Automatic Post-Collision Braking activates the brakes during accidents to help avoid secondary collisions.
