The Ford Explorer is a mid-size SUV that seats seven and offers a choice of three engines for the 2016 model year, including a 3.5-liter V6, a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine and a 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6. The EcoBoost engines are turbocharged, improving both the power and fuel efficiency of the engine. 18-inch aluminum wheels, front-wheel drive, power steering and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard equipment, while four-wheel drive is available as an option. Traction control, stability control and front passenger knee airbags are standard safety features on all Explorer models.
All 2016 Explorers offer three rows of seats with separate climate control systems for second row passengers. In addition to its passenger capacity, the Explorer can haul cargo internally with a maximum of 81.7 cubic feet of space behind the first-row seats. The Explorer can also tow cargo, with a maximum capacity of 5,000 pounds for V6-powered models and 2,000 pounds for Explorers fitted with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine.
