The Motley Fool reports that Shell brand gasoline ranks higher than ExxonMobil in terms of quality and other factors. Rankings are based on a 2014 poll of 40,000 American consumers.
Shell earned the No. 3 spot behind Costco and Murphy/Wal-Mart, while ExxonMobil was ranked No. 6. Other factors involved in consumer rankings were brand familiarity, purchase consideration and the respective companies' ability to create conversations with customers on social media as well as offline. Shell, which owned and operated more than 14,000 fuel stations in the United States as of 2014, placed considerably higher than its fellow big oil brands, ranking among big box retailers.
