John Deere does not maintain salvage yards. However, John Deere tractors, mowers, harvesters, parts and other equipment are sold at many salvage and junk yards.
Used and salvaged John Deer products are also available on websites such as TractorPartsASAP.com and GulfSouthEquip.com. These and similar sites help users find salvaged and refurbished equipment and components that are no longer available from the manufacturer.
Although many John Deere owners turn to salvage yards for affordable, working replacement parts, salvaged items are also useful to individuals who collect rare and vintage farm equipment. One of the rarest and most prized John Deere tractors is the 3010 John Deere Gas Orchard tractor. The manufacturer produced only 19 of these tractors. Another rare model was built in 1918 by Frank Hansen, who named it the "John Deere Tractor." This was the first commercially released tractor sold by Deere and Company, the firm now known as John Deere. The John Deere Tractor features three metal wheels and a four-cylinder gasoline engine.
The John Deere No. 101 is arguably the rarest collectible John Deere tractor model. This tractor was released in 1942 in a production run of five units. The company used the No. 101 as a test product by loaning the tractors out to farmers throughout the United States in exchange for feedback and constructive criticism. Many of the changes suggested during the tests were incorporated into subsequent John Deere models.
