The V60 and S60 models have similar superior safety ratings with minor differences. They have the safety features of side airbags, a rollover sensor to trigger side curtain airbags, electronic stability control, anti-lock breaks and daytime running lights. In the small overlap frontal crash test ratings, both models receive good scores on all points except for restraints and dummy kinetics. That category is rated acceptable because the dummy's head slid into a gap of coverage during the test.

The V60 and S60 also receive good ratings for all points in the moderate overlap front crash and the side crash. The roof strength-to-weight ratio is good at 4.95. Head restraints and seats are rated good on all points. The front crash protection is rated superior. The models only differ in the ease-of-use rating for child seat anchors. The V60 passenger side rear seat has acceptable ease of use. The driver side rear seat has a marginal rating for having a high difficulty of the accessing the latches. The S60 has acceptable ratings for both of those seat locations.
