The Acura TLX, the Audi A6, the Cadillac CTS, the Honda Accord and Ford's Mustang are some cars with the safest ratings by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the 2016 model year. Many cars performed well on some of the tests, but these cars scored five stars on all of the NHTSA tests, including frontal crash, side crash, rollover and overall safety. The vehicles were also rated on the availability of technological safety feature advancements.
Advanced technology features include rearview video systems, forward collision warning and lane departure warning.
The TLX was tested in the four-door model with both front wheel drive and all wheel drive models performing equally well. Its standard equipment includes a rearview camera with forward collision and lane departure warning available as options. The Audi A6 performed perfectly on all the tests but only has an optional forward warning safety system.
The Cadillac CTS four-door sedan scored five-star ratings on both the all wheel drive and rear wheel drive models. Available advanced safety features are optional, and its rollover percentage was just 10.1 percent, slightly greater than the comparable Audi and Acura models.
The Accord and the Mustang were some top performing two-door coupes, with the Mustang having the best rollover rating of all five cars with just an 8.1-percent probability of turning over.
