According to industry standards, Saab vehicles are some of the safest cars. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, both current Saab models, the 9-4X crossover SUV and the 9-5 sedan are "Top Safety Picks." This is the highest ranking the IIHS gives.
For a vehicle to receive the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick award, it must meet very high standards for crash-worthiness. That includes having and electronic traction or stability control and receiving top marks in both impact and rollover tests. Generally, when a car does well on IIHS testing, it also gets a very high National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) 5-star crash rating. Due to the strict standards of these organizations, it can be assumed that SAAB is a safe car for all passengers, including families.
Furthermore, Saabs are generally roomy vehicles, making both Saab sedans and SUVs equipped with enough room for four or five passengers. Therefore, they are ideal for transporting families.
According to the Saab website, the vehicle's legacy is one of "innovative power, quality, progressive design and a firm commitment to environmental and safety issues." On August 31, 2012, National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB acquired SAAB and continues their commitment to safety.
