There are six qualifying items to start as a truck driver with Prime Inc. A candidate must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid commercial driver's license with a tanker endorsement and be able to procure a U.S. passport, Transportation Workers ID Credential, and Hazardous Materials endorsement. A valid work history, with references, and a passable motor vehicle record are required, as is successfully passing a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Standards physical screening.
Although Prime Inc. doesn't immediate disqualify an applicant with a criminal history or positive drug and alcohol tests, the company evaluates the candidate on a case-by-case basis. It also requires proof of substance abuse counseling for failed or refused tests.
To apply to be a truck driver for Prime Inc without a CDL, an applicant must enroll in the paid CDL training apprenticeship program the company offers. Driver training commences at the Prime Training Center in Springfield, Missouri, after successfully obtaining a Missouri CDL permit. It lasts for three to four weeks as necessary, testing students in real-world driving situations, featuring 75 hours of behind-the-wheel time. After successfully passing the state CDL written and driving exams and earning a CDL with hazmat endorsement, the candidate begins as a company driver trainee until reaching 40,000 miles of driving experience. Then, the trainee takes a company skills test and becomes eligible for a position as a company driver or leased truck driver.
