To repair the water pump on a Nissan Sentra with an E-series engine, drain the coolant into a container, and remove the power steering belt and power steering pump. Remove the water pump or alternator drive belt and alternator mounting bolts, and move the alternator aside to access the water pump pulley. Remove the water pump pulley to access the water pump. Install the new water pump and a new gasket before reassembling the engine.
Drain the coolant into a clean, sealable container, and reuse the coolant unless it is contaminated or very old. After removing the water pump, remove the old gasket from the mounting surface with a putty knife, and install a new gasket before the new water pump.
Tighten the bolts on the water pump to 78 to 120 inch-pounds, or refer to the owner's manual to determine the appropriate torque. To repair or replace the water pump on a Nissan Sentra with a CA16DE or CA18DE engine, remove the negative battery terminal, drain the coolant, and remove the fan shroud. Remove the fan belt, fan and pulley to access the water pump.
Remove the water pump, and install the new water pump and a new gasket as with the E-series engine. Add coolant, and start the engine to check for leaks.
