Find reliable snow tire reviews at the Automobile Protection Association, according to the APA. This association reviews winter tires for passenger cars, crossovers, minivans and SUVs.
Passenger vehicle winter tire reviews are broken into five categories on the Automobile Protection Association website, explains APA. The top category is top rated for the best reviewed tires. These include the Bridgestone Blizzak WS 80, Michelin X-Ice Xi3, Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 and Toyo Observe GSi5. The Michelin X-Ice Xi3 is the preferred tire for driving on ice and snow while both Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 and Toyo Observe GSi5 work well in deep snow.
The second category is rated very good, says APA. These tires include the continental ExtremeWinterContact, Dunlop Graspic WinterMaxx, Gislaved NordFrost 100, Nokian R2 and the Yokohama Ice Gaurd IG51c. The Continental ExtremeWinterContact is considered a less expensive version of the top rated Michelin X-Ice tire. Most of these tires provide less ice or snow traction than those in the top rated category.
The good and acceptable categories include the BF Goodrich Winter Slalom KSI, General Altimax Arctic, Pirelli Carving Edge, Firestone Winterforce and Goodyear Ultra Grip Winter, notes APA. Some of the below average tires are the Goodyear Nordic Winter, Saxon Snowblazer Passenger and Winter Claw Extreme Grip.
