Someone who has knowledge concerning the value, quality and condition of used boats should be able to buy one off Craigslist with little complication. Doing so is not recommended, however, for someone who has never bought a boat before or is inexperienced with their upkeep.
Anyone buying a used boat should thoroughly inspect each feature to make sure problems aren't likely to come up in the future. Things such as large cracks in the fiberglass or moisture or mold in wooden areas are important to noter, but they don't always indicate significant damage. Those without the knowledge of what to look for can call an expert to come in and look at a prospective purchase.
