General Motors, the manufacturer of the Duramax diesel engine, recalled pickup truck units equipped with the 6.6-liter V8 engine in 2014. The recall order included 9,466 units of 2012 ''13 Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD, and 51 units of the same car models under the 2015 year.
The Duramax V8 diesel engine was recalled due to possible fire risk and, later, due to issues with the fuel pump. In production since 2001, Duramax diesel engine has been reported as a reliable and durable platform that has maintained its competitive edge thanks to consistent modifications and improvements. Some car owners, however, complain about overheating problems, water pump and premature injector failures for earlier models and continuing emission problems for latest models.
