There was never a recall of the Saturn Vue transmission, though it failed in over 90,000 Saturn Vue models. The transmission was a VTi continuously variable style model, which General Motors eventually abandoned after 2005.
The cost to repair a failed Saturn Vue transmission is approximately $4,000 to $5,000. As a result, owners of the Saturn Vue filed a large class-action lawsuit against General Motors. The lawsuit provides compensation for owners of 2002 to 2005 model Saturn Vues. The payout to each customer depends on the vehicle's mileage prior to transmission failure. As of 2015, the lawsuit only provides compensation for owners whose transmission failed within eight years, with less than 125,000 miles on the vehicle.
