The Subaru WRX, Toyota Supra, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Nissan GT-R are among the most popular Japanese cars with stock turbochargers. The Subaru WRX and its STI variant are four-wheel rally sedans, as is the Lancer Evolution, while the Supra and GT-R are performance coupes.
Japanese turbocharged cars are well-known in performance tuning circles for having tremendous performance potential for engine tuners. The engines used in the WRX STI and Supra are particularly well-known for tolerating large turbocharger boost pressures and producing much more horsepower than stock when properly tuned. For example, it is common for a tuned Supra engine to produce over 600 horsepower, with some very heavily modified engines producing over 1,200 horsepower.
