Notable drivers of the Miss Budweiser hydroplane include Dean Chenoweth, Chip Hanauer, Jim Kropfeld, Mickey Remund and Bill Sterett. Dave Villwock drove the watercraft in its final race. Sponsored by the Anheuser-Busch brewery, Miss Budweiser unlimited hydroplanes won 15 Gold Cups and two dozen world championships.
Anheuser-Busch began sponsoring the hydroplane and race events at the urging of Budweiser distributor Bernie Little. In 2003, Little died at age 77; Budweiser ended its relationship with unlimited hydroplane competitions the following year. A succession of drivers raced the Miss Budweiser hydroplanes over the 42-year sponsorship period. The signature red boats weighed 6,000 pounds, were 30 feet long and reached speeds of 200 miles per hour.
