As of July 2015, Nissan does not offer a Titan full-sized pickup with a diesel fuel option. A partnership between Cummins and Nissan announced in 2010, and later reaffirmed in 2013, projected the first availability of diesel-equipped Titan trucks in late 2015 for the 2016 model year.
The 2016 Nissan Titan model features a number of upgrades, both inside and out, to attract all types of buyers. With a 5.0 liter Cummins diesel, this model allows Nissan to offer an option to a large segment of the population.
The main benefits of a diesel engine include increased torque and horsepower, which allows for higher towing limit weights, better fuel economy and engine durability. With these three items lacking, Nissan has been unable to capture the semi-professional and heavy duty truck audience, who typically vie for the diesel-equipped F-Series, Silverado, Sierra, and Ram truck models.
