The 2015 Toyota Prius receives only a couple of changes compared with last year's model, including a newly standard rear-view camera system as well as the debut of the luxurious Persona Series. A more efficient Prius with an all-new platform is expected to debut for the 2016 model year.
The Toyota Prius 2015 model year features the debut of the Persona Series, an all-new trim level based on the mid-tier Prius Three. Exterior features exclusive to the Persona Series include dark-finish, 17-inch lightweight alloy wheels, body-color side mirrors with integrated turn signals, and dark chrome trim with a brushed-metal look.
On the inside, the regular Three trim's cloth seats get an upgrade to environmentally friendly SofTex leatherette upholstery with contrasting-color stitching, and an illuminated front footwell area lights up for easier entry and exit in the dark. Priced from $26,985 as of March 2015, the Persona Series splits the difference in cost between the Prius Three and Four.
Also for 2015, all trim levels now come standard with a rear-view camera system that displays a wide-angle image with grid lines over the Prius's standard in-dash touchscreen infotainment system. A rear-view camera came only on the higher trim levels or as optional equipment for the previous model year.
Toyota has sold the Prius hatchback in its current form since 2009 and intends to debut an all-new Prius for the 2016 model year. The new model is expected to achieve between 55 and 60 combined miles per gallon.
