The Mustang Cobra Jet is a race car designed by Ford. The original model was introduced at and won the 1968 NHRA Winternationals, a stock car competition. The Cobra Jet branding was revived in 2008 as a limited edition called the FR500CJ. Since then, several other models have been produced.
The 2008 model Mustang Cobra Jet used a supercharged V8 engine and was engineered specifically for use in drag racing. The 2008 models and the cars that followed it (2010, 2012, and 2013 model years to date as of 2014) are all variants of the FR500 model line. FR500 cars are highly tuned Mustangs that are not street legal and are only meant for use in stock car competitions. They are special-ordered from Ford on a per-customer basis.
