The 2015 RAM 1500 pickup comes with an available 3.0-liter Turbodiesel V-6 engine with 240 horsepower and 420 foot-pounds of torque. As of April 2015 in the United States, only RAM offers a diesel in its full-size light-duty pickup truck lineup.
RAM's EcoDiesel V-6 engine saw a higher-than-expected take rate with buyers when it debuted for the 2014 model year, sitting on dealer lots for a low average of just 13 days and causing RAM to ramp up production to meet demand.
The torque-rich diesel offers strong fuel efficiency in this segment at 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Its highway figure is the best among all full-size trucks.
Nissan is slated to join RAM in 2015 by offering a full-size light-duty pickup with a diesel option when its 2016 Titan XD debuts with a Cummins-built 5.0-liter Turbodiesel V-8.
