Motorcycle license plates classifying as collectible are at least 20 years old, and attach to original motorcycles without alterations to body or design. Collectible motorcycle plates meet stringent criteria; states issue them only to motorcycles appearing in original design since the initial production date. Plates may attach to motorcycles with select alterations, too.
The list of permissible alterations for motorcycles includes changes to mechanical body components, such as metal trimming and attachment of additional parts like wings and spoilers, provided those parts existed at the time of original motorcycle production date. Application for collector motorcycle plates follows a process similar to that of regular plates, and may require fees.
