Mazda Motor Corporation, a Japanese-based automotive manufacturer, makes Mazda cars. The company also distributes and sells automobiles, trucks, auto parts and car accessories. Its headquarters is in Hiroshima, Japan.
The company is named after the supreme God or wise God of the ancient Iranians, Ahura Mazda. Mazda Motor Corporation was established in 1920. It was then known as Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd. At that time, the company manufactured machine tools. In 1927, the company changed its name to Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. and started manufacturing vehicles. The company launched its first car, Mazda-Go in 1927. Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. formally changed its name to Mazda in 1984, although all its vehicles had the name Mazda from the beginning.
