The original Tesla, the 2008 Roadster, has one lithium ion battery and is capable of traveling 245 miles on a full charge. The Roadster has an AC induction motor first patented by Nikola Tesla in 1888 and is capable of reaching 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds.
Tesla has sold more than 2,400 Roadsters, as of 2015. In 2012, it launched the Model S, a four-door sedan with a flat battery pack built into the chassis. The Tesla Model S is capable of traveling 265 miles on a full battery charge. People who own Teslas can charge their batteries at home or take advantage of the Tesla Supercharger network when traveling.
