As of 2015, Acura vehicles are made by Honda, a Japanese automaker. Acura is a division of Honda that specializes in luxury vehicles. Honda introduced Acura in the United States and Canada in 1986.
The brand uses a number of Honda-specific technologies, such as Advanced Compatibility Engineering structural design, Lift Electronic Control, Variable Valve Timing and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive.
In 1986, Honda opened 60 dealerships to support the Acura brand. The first two models were the Integra compact car and the Legend executive car, and these two cars saw sales of 52,869 in 1986. Honda continues to introduce new Acura models.
