As of August 2015, major automotive airbag manufacturing companies include Delphi, TRW, Autoliv and Takata. These companies supply a large number of the airbags in use in late-model cars, with Autoliv alone accounting for 25 percent of the airbag market in the United States.
Airbag manufacturers often supply products to multiple automobile companies. An unfortunate consequence of this practice is that a manufacturing issue affecting one supplier is likely to affect many different makes and models of cars. For example, an ongoing recall of Takata airbags has affected vehicles manufactured by Ford, General Motors, BMW, Mitsubishi, Subaru and several other companies.
