To make a homemade vehicle muffler, use sheet metal with perforations to make an inner pipe, bend it to a gentle S shape, and wrap it with stainless steel wool to achieve the required thickness. Then, insert the pipe into a steel tube of a suitable length, and attach their ends together.
Using a rubber mallet, begin making a homemade muffler by bending a sheet metal with perforations to make a perforated pipe measuring 20 inches in length and 1.5 inches in diameter. Ensure that the sheet metal has a thickness of above 1 millimeter. With the mallet, tap on the pipe to make two angles of seven degrees on its length. This gives the pipe two gentle S curves.
Now, using paper tape, wrap 10 pads of number 3 coarse wool made of stainless steel around the pipe till the wool layer reaches a thickness of 1 inch. Wrap number 1 wool made of stainless steel around the paper tape to a similar thickness. Ensure that the wool thickness is such that the pipe fits snugly within the steel tube.
Insert the pipe into a steel tube that is similar in length, while ensuring that both its ends protrude out from the tube. Join the pipe to the tube's edges by welding the two together. Use two 2-inch diameter plates made of metal and a welder for this purpose. After welding, let the metal cool down.
