Full Answer

  1. Select the type of appointment from the CA DMV appointment website

You can make an appointment for either an office visit or a behind-the-wheel driving test. You can also make adjustments to a previously scheduled appointment. You cannot make an online appointment for a commercial behind-the-wheel driving test.

  2. Select the location of the DMV office you wish to visit

The site provides you with both a drop-down menu of DMV locations and a map for you to choose the office most convenient for you.

  3. Fill out the information requested on the page

If you are requesting a driving test, you provide the type of test you need, whether or not you have completed a safety course, your name, your birthday and your license number. If you need an office visit, click on the number of items you have to process and the reason for your office visit. You then enter your name and phone number.

  4. Click the Submit button at the bottom of the page

You can change your information later if needed, but your appointment and information is not logged until you click the Submit button.
