The primary components of a side mirror on a car or truck are the exterior mounting and the mirror glass itself. However, many modern cars incorporate additional components, such as power adjustment motors or lighting fixtures, into the side mirror assembly.
It is often possible to replace the glass in a side mirror separately from the housing or other components if it is the only part of the assembly that is damaged. However, this can be complicated in some vehicles by the integration of turn signal lights into the mirror itself. Additional mirror components sometimes found on luxury vehicles include memory modules and motors that allow the mirror to fold and unfold.
